i've fallen in love with tori amos. i'll tell you how this came about.
i was reading a story online, and this song called "muhammad my friend" was quoted. if you've paid any attention to my layout, and then looked up the lyrics, you'd see some familiar words here and there.
anyway, she herself said that the song is about the absence of women in the bible, and so the metaphor she uses for this error is that it was really a woman who was crucified, instead of jesus. i have no objection to that interpretation, since it's, you know, the writer's interpretation.
so maybe it's just me, but i think the song sounds a lot like, um, sex. not just that it's just that good, which it is, but also that structurally, it actually resembles the act itself. (you'll need to download the song to really understand what the fuck i'm talking about here, you know.) the fact that her voice builds in intensity until she's effectively screaming "ashre" (the rough translation of this hebrew word is "blessed", and is also on my layout), after which she gets all whispery and breathy, and also the fact that she's mumbling certain nonsensical phrases throughout the song is suggestive of that.
i need to stop thinking about things like this so much. either way, the song really, really turns me on.
also, the lyrics i provided on the layout are also suggestive of that really sad story about the two boys you see on the picture. just a note.
